Clothing Tips

Dress your kids in simple, plain clothing. For example: black, khakis, denim overalls always photograph well. These are simple, timeless pieces. In portraits, stripes and patterns will take your focal attention away from their faces and gear it towards the clothing. A good rule of thumb, if it takes more than 10 minutes to dress your child, then it's probably the wrong outfit. Remember I'm photographing your child, not the cute outfit grandma bought at the boutique.

Newborns & infants photograph the best naked or just in a diaper. If wearing clothes, make sure it's form fitting or even 1 size too small otherwise it will bunch up and overtake your baby and they could become "lost" in the peter pan collared shirt or fancy dress.

Shoes are not necessary for little ones besides they'll just end up kicking them off. There is nothing more precious than bare bottoms & bare piggies!

For more than one child, color coordinate their clothing. It doesn't need to be identical outfits, but the same color tones are recommended. Stay away from white; it tends to wash out your natural skin tone.

Have nails trimmed and cleaned-up. If your child is old enough for nail polish, make sure a fresh coat has been applied before the session. Minor blemishes and scratches can be retouched and will not show up on the final print.

Bring your child's favorite stuffed animal.

Parents: ALWAYS come to the session dressed as if you were going to have your pictures taken too. I will bring parents into the session to help relax the kids in a new environment. Black is recommended and flattering for every body type.

During the Session

What to Expect During the Session:

Before we start, I will spend a few minutes talking with your child to get to know them better and make them feel more comfortable.

If your child is still nervous, I will pull you into the session to capture the perfect picture. So please come prepared to have pictures taken just in case!

If breaks are needed for feeding/snack time, not a problem! We'll take them and get her more comfortable.

If your child is misbehaving, please remain calm and don't get stressed out. When you're stressed out, your child will sense your tension and start to feel tense also. Please refrain from strict discipline during the session; it will damage the the quality of your photos. I'm a mother of 5 kids so I've been there & I have a lot of patience.
